Our God, Christ the King, rules this world and the universe. Because he controls all, Christ the King gives us hope and peace in his faithful promises. Our Faithful God Many people enjoy the sounds and sights of the seashore. Near the shore, we can hear the waves crashing into the rocks and see the foaming surf. The sounds of the waves roar day and night. The waves come and come and come. The perpetual waves illustrate the faithfulness of our God. Like the endless waves, our faithful Father stays with us throughout our lives. Chapter 10, in the vision of the trumpets, gave us hope. We witnessed the power and evil of Satan. Now Christ the King revealed that he controls all. 1Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, (Rev. 10:1, 2, NIV). The Majestic Angel John sees a … mighty angel coming down from heaven. What an awesome angel! He comes from heaven robed with the clouds, and a beautiful rainbow circles his head. His face shines bright like the sun; his legs appear as pillars of fire. Is this Jesus or an angel? John’s description points to this angel as Jesus Christ the King of Glory. Because the symbols portray the angel as our Savior, I shall consider the angel as the real Christ. Clouds surround Christ the King. Jesus spoke of returning in the clouds in the Gospels. He told the high priest that in the future he would see the Son of Man sitting at God’s right side. Then he would see him come in the clouds (Matt. 26:64). If God gave us spiritual insight like John, we would see Jesus at God’s right hand clothed with the clouds of Heaven (Dan. 7:13). Symbols Point to Christ the KingA bright rainbow circled the head of Jesus (Rev. 4:3). In the Bible, rainbows symbolized God’s covenant with the people on the earth. God told Noah after the flood that he would never destroy the earth with water again. God put the rainbow in the clouds to remind himself and us of his covenant with man (Gen. 9:11–17).
Christ the King gives rainbow promiseThe prophet Ezekiel saw the same God of splendor and power that John saw. Ezekiel saw a bright figure like a man on a sapphire throne. The being looked like glowing metal and fire with a brilliant light around him. The radiance appeared like a bright rainbow around the glory of the Lord (Ezek. 1:26–28). The angel’s face was radiant like the sun. The face shining like the sun gave us a picture of Jesus as the Light of the World. Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a high mountain and transfigured himself before them (Matt. 17:1, 2). They saw his face shining like the sun, and his clothes looked as white as light. Christ the King Controls AllJesus … planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. This illustrates Christ the King as the Mighty One who had all power and all authority over the land and the sea. After his Resurrection, the Father placed Christ the King far above all things. He gave Jesus the highest power and authority of any being in the universe. God appointed the slain Lamb over everything and made him the head of the Church (Eph. 1:21, 22). This image of the Lord, with his feet on the land and on the sea, shows us a Creator who controls the destiny of the world
