Fruit of the Spirit from our God helps Christians yield their lives to Jesus. The fruit of the Spirit works in our lives to interact with the people around us and to follow the nature Jesus.

Oneness with God

Our Savior came to earth as an innocent baby. He was an example of God in human form with all the qualities of each. Jesus lived and worked as a man on earth for thirty years. God then baptized his Son with the Holy Spirit. With the fullness of the Spirit, Jesus could follow his Father’s directions with perfection. The fruit of the Spirit, obedience, led our Lord into a oneness with his Father.

The Bible gives us Jesus as an example for us to follow. He requires us to believe and trust him for our eternal destiny. By example, Jesus suggests that we ask him to fill us with the Holy Spirit (Matt. 3:11–17). The power of the flowing Spirit in our lives helps us to obey the leading of God. As we ask God to fill us and refill us with the Holy Spirit, this gives us a spirit of obedience to him.

Fruit of the spirit giving obedience leads us into a oneness with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It’s an invisible quality contained within the Church of Jesus Christ on earth. Although you can’t see it, many Christians sense their oneness with the Godhead. Unlike the people who reject God, these saints strive for a closer relationship with their Lord.

Fruit of the Spirit gives God's love and peace

Jesus gives us the fruit of the Spirit in this process. He gives us: his love, his peace, his joy, his patience, his kindness, and his goodness. The Lord does this as we seek him and ask for more of his Holy Spirit. He also gives us: his faithfulness, his gentleness, his knowledge, his self-control, his perseverance, and his godliness (Gal. 5:22, 23; 2 Pet. 1:5–8).

The fruit of the Spirit helps us to imitate Jesus Christ, which he wants us to do (Eph. 5:1). Jesus came to earth out of love for us. We in turn should desire to live our lives out of love for him. The experience of the love of Christ helps us to reach out to others in compassion. People without Jesus have no hope. Their destiny points to eternal separation from the love of God.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit help us accomplish all that our Savior wants us to do. He gives us everything we need to follow him and love others through him. The peace and joy of Jesus comes as we ask him to immerse us in the Holy Spirit. The Lord’s fruit and his gifts lead us into a union with his eternal presence.
